The global production of resources (metals, minerals and fossil fuels) is from publicly available database. The production data of metals and minerals are compiled from the mineral statistics of the United States Geological Survey and the British Geological Survey. Fossil fuel data are from the British Oil and Gas Company Statistics (BP Stats) and the International Energy Agency. |

This tool permits the distribution of a resource's production using a worldwide heat map. It also displays important information, such as the highest production of resources in a particular year. |

The Herfindahl-Hirschman index (HHI) measures the production concentration of a resource. The values are normalized to 0 to 1, where 1 indicates the production of that particular resource is concentrated in only one country. In terms of supply risk, it is better if the production of a resource is distributed over many countries reducing its dependency. |

The HHI is an essential component of the GeoPolRisk method and provides an overview of the global supply risk of a resource during a period. |
